ALTERNATING BOUNDARIES

Carrara, Italy - Art Studio / Exhibition Space
2018

This project questions the rigidness of architecture. It enables a dynamic, functional, and adaptable structure within a defined area.

The design process started with one room consisting of four rigid walls. A scheme shows all the possible programs in which the room can be shaped, considering the play of natural light changing throughout the day. The walls move through a rigid structure creating alternating boundaries that define a modular space. Light enters the room through the roof structure providing optimal lighting conditions.

The site consists of a compound and recurrence of this one room. It offers a flexible program that can be used as an enclosed art studio or open exhibition space.
